Tournament Rules
I. View the rules to make sure that you are within the guidelines of the ABA. We want to make sure that you have a great adventure in your bowhunting experience and most importantly, A Safe Bowhunting Experience.
***Official ABA Shooting Rules***
1. Known Pro – All shooters. Everyone who shoots this class must pay an entry fee, including life members. 1st Place Payout. Shooting on Saturday & Sunday. 50yd Max +/-5yds **ASA Open Class Rules** {Paddle} $30
2. Known 50 – There are no restrictions on shooting equipment. Scopes are permitted. 50yd Max +/-5yds **ASA Open Class Rules** {Paddle} $20
3. Modern Hunter – Maximum 12″ stabilizer with Back Bar; Hunting Style moveable sights. Scopes will be allowed. 40yd Max +/-5yds **ASA Open Class Rules** {Blue} $20
4. Bowhunter – Maximum 12″ stabilizer with Back Bar; fixed pins (magnification allowed); screw-in tips; any release or fingers may be used. 40yd Max +/-5yds **ASA Open Class Rules** {Blue} $20
5. Known 40 – There are no restrictions on shooting equipment. 40yd Max +/-5yds **ASA Open Class Rules** {Blue} $20
6. Modern Traditional – Bows without sighting aids or devices on the string, bow, glove, or tab. No release aids or holding devices are allowed. String silencers and clickers are allowed. No Full containment rests. 25yd Max +/-5yds. {White} $20
7. Longbow – Longbow without sighting aids or devices on the string or bow. No release aids, overdraws, or holding devices are allowed. String silencers, gloves, & tabs are allowed. 25yd Max +/-5yds. {White} $20
8. Recurve – Recurve bow without sighting aids or devices on the string or bow. No release aids, overdraws, or holding devices are allowed. String silencers, gloves, & tabs are allowed. 25yd Max +/-5yds. {White} $20
9. Seniors (50+ years old) – There are no restrictions on shooting equipment. Scopes are permitted. 40yd Max +/-5yds **ASA Open Class Rules** {Blue} $20
10. Super Seniors (60+ years old) – There are no restrictions on shooting equipment. Scopes are permitted. 40yd Max +/-5yds **ASA Open Class Rules** {Blue} $20
11. Ladies Known 40 – Follows the same guidelines as Known 40. 40yd Max +/-5yds {Blue} $20
12. Ladies Bowhunter – Follows the same guidelines as Bowhunter Division. 30yd Max +/-5yds {Pink} $20
13. Novice – Maximum 12″ stabilizer with no other stabilizing equipment; fixed pins with no magnification; screw-in tips. 30yd Max +/-5yds {Pink} $20
14. Youth – Consisting of all styles together in one division. 30yd Max +/-5yds. Ages 13-15 {Pink} $10
15. Cub – Consisting of all styles together in one division. 20yd Max +/-5yds. Ages 9-12 {White} $Free
16. PeeWee – Consisting of all styles together in one division. 10yd Max +/-5yds. Ages 8 and under {No Flag} $Free
17. Fun Round – Consisting of all styles/equipment together in one division. Shoot from any stake. Ages 16 and up $10 (Free to Life Members) {Not eligible for placement awards or door prizes}
II. Awards given will be determined by the Executive Committee before each shoot.
III. There are no speed restrictions, but no crossbows are allowed in any division. (Binoculars and rangefinders are allowed in all divisions).
IV. Scoring will be as follows: Only one arrow – 12,10,8,5. Only low 12’s are in play unless the upper 12 is called out to the group before shooting. Some part of the shooter’s body must touch the stake.
V. For any arrow to receive the higher scoring value it must at least touch the line. No one in the group may advance toward the target until all arrows are shot.
VI. Only the Executive Committee can make changes to these rules. The committee has the final decision on all rules.
**ASA Open Class Rules**

May use any compound or recurve bow, sight, release, stabilizer, or equipment unless specifically prohibited in any other part of these rules or by a ruling of the Competition Committee. ABA reserves the right to review any equipment/accessories and determine their suitability for competition. The following equipment/accessories are prohibited in all classes: (1) broadheads or any other point or tip not intended for target use; (2) retaining mechanisms that allow the bow to be mechanically held in the drawn position (except crossbows); (3) laser sights or devices; (4) devices or any outside agency (including stabilizer bar or prop stick) that allows the mass weight of the bow to be relieved from either arm while shooting or that allows for steadying the bow with any part of the body other than the bow hand. ABA retains the right to waive certain equipment restrictions or shooting rules under specific circumstances for physically challenged competitors.
